Also you would love to spend time on the banks of the Limmat River.Most exciting though is spending time near the magnificent Alps which is in close proximity to the city of Zurich. Also the surrounding areas of Zurich are a treat to watch. You should not miss the view of the Rhine falls which is among the largest in Europe.One of the top attractions to Zurich are its art galleries and museums. There are a number of art galleries in the city. The density of the art galleries is amazing. You hardly walk a minute and you reach a new art gallery.The numbers of the art galleries can confuse you and you might think that which of the Zurich art galleries to visit.There is a clear choice though. Hi pals!Hope you have a great day ahead.Yes, you just got gratuitously f-bombed by WAF. Sorry about that folks. I’m just feeling a bit sassy and satisfied after a productive afternoon in the studio. Also, after Drunk Mama’s recent readings of this essay at Thanksgiving (yes, the kids were in bed) and at Cellar Mouse’s birthday gathering, we just can’t help ourselves but appropriate from it whenever we get the chance. It seems like there is always an appropriate (or inappropriate) occasion.Speaking of appropriate occasions, Decorative Gourd Season is officially over. I know, it’s hard to see them go, but it’s time to pack those freaky vegetables away in their Rubbermaid bins and for them to take their place in the attic beside the other boxes of seasonal and holiday decor. Its time for something even more festive. Bubbles! Its champagne Season (Sorry again, I really just can’t help myself.)I admittedly know very little about champagne, or sparkling napa valley and merlot wine, as the case may be. I do know that I am always happy to partake on a festive occasion. I am trying to take a little time to educate myself before our next sparkling Battle of the Bottles. We still haven’t finalized our contestants and are always happy to have recommendations from our readers.Alas, my new champagne cups will not be ready to use in the battle, and doubtfully for New Year’s Eve. The ceramic process takes time and patience. I do hope to have many occasions for celebration in the coming year, however. I also think they could be re-purposed for serving liquid truffles. This is the first of 2 beetroot cake recipes which are both terrific but quite different. The first is more of a beetroot ‘fruit and nut’ cake, and perhaps the most surprising thing is that once cooked, the only thing that’s purple are your fingers from grating raw beetroot, and the cake’s gone a wonderful rich golden brown
Cooking & Prep Time: 90 mins
Ingredients
* 150g fresh raw Beetroot (1 beetroot, approx tennis ball size)
* 225g Self-Raising Flour
* ½ tsp Bicarbonate of Soda
* 1 tsp Baking Powder
* ½ tsp ground Cinnamon
* 180ml Vegetable Oil (e.g., rapeseed)
* 100g Soft Brown Sugar
* 125g Golden Granulated Castor Sugar
* 3 Eggs (yolks & whites separated)
* 2 tbsp Lemon Juice
* 75g Raisins
* 50g Pecan Nuts, chopped
* 50g Sunflower Seeds
Method
* Under a running tap, peel the beetroot and pat dry on kitchen paper
* Carefully grate the beetroot onto a chopping board or plate (ideally one which won’t stain!)
* Sift the flour, baking powder, bicarb & cinnamon into a large bowl
* In a food processor, cream together the oil and sugar until smooth, then add the egg yolks and beat again
* Gradually add the flour mixture and lemon juice. Continue to beat until smooth and pour into a mixing bowl
* Stir in the beetroot, raisins, nuts & seeds and mix well
* In a separate bowl, whisk the egg whites until soft peaks form, then carefully fold this into the beetroot mixture
* Pour into a greased or lined 2lb loaf tin and bake in the oven, 170ºC, for approx 50 minutes. Turn half way through. Check with a skewer or knife blade – if it comes out clean then the cake is cooked.
* Allow to cool for 10-20 minutes before carefully knocking out of the tin. Leave to cool on a rack
* Slice and serve!
